"Cubist John and Yoko in Blue"

1971, 20" x 30"

So what do you get when you cross Blue Period Picasso with "Double Fantasy", add a bit of Juan Gris for spice, and then throw in "Two Virgins" for flavor? I'm not quite sure, but I'll bet it would look a lot like this painting. What at first looks quite amateurish (check out the impish grins), is actually a very sophisticated piece of work. When I first looked at this painting I saw only a couple of faces and a mess of blue lines, but later inspection revealed just how carefully the artist has thought out the formation of each person's torso, arms, and legs. This may at first look easy, but I'll bet it's not quite as simple as it seems to successfully pull off this style of painting.
