"Family Portrait: The Schaabs"

Emmis, 1981, 24" x 24"

The above painting purportedly took two years to paint and was given as an anniversary gift to a friend's parents some 20-odd years ago. Imagine my friend's surprise when I heard about the painting and informed her that it sounded like she had a genuine thrift store art masterpiece in the family. Even after hearing about the painting for months and imagining great treasures to come, this piece still exceeded my wildest expectations! Further background research indicated that Mr. Emmis was paid $50 for his efforts, and that he was commissioned for the job because he was the only artist my friend knew. Why can't EVERY family have a treasure in their attic this wonderful waiting for me?
